- Kotzebue Electric Association (KEA) will expand renewable heating systems and install electric vehicle (EV) charging systems
- This will include purchasing:
- Renewable heating devices and control systems
- Enhanced wireless communication systems
- Electric vehicle charging stations
- The EV charging stations will be installed in central areas of town, based on co-op membership feedback
- This will improve energy savings for our members by reducing their heating and transportation costs
- Members utilizing the systems could save 25% on their heating oil bill and reduce their gasoline purchases by 50%
- Reducing these costs makes rural communities more sustainable and increases available revenue to pay for other expenses
Renewable Heating Expansion and EV Charging Stations: $1.4 million, seeking funding
Additionally, NPS secured its own funding to install a 100 kilowatt electric boiler at the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center in Kotzebue.
